EV charger installation cost in Los Angeles: compare the whole project.

A useful budget separates the charger, wiring route, electrical changes and permits. Use this guide and the quote worksheet to compare what each electrician actually includes.

Prepared by All In One Handy. Sources checked . Independent planning guidance; a licensed electrician assesses your home.

What should you budget for?

Get a property-specific quote before committing to equipment. The EPA’s national consumer guide lists $400–$1,000 for equipment and $300–$2,000 for installation, depending on the home’s setup. Those are broad national references, not a Los Angeles average or an offer from All In One Handy. A panel or service change, difficult wiring route or extensive repair can put your project outside that reference.

Ask for the full price before incentives. Record possible rebates separately so an application denial does not leave a gap in your budget. Our Los Angeles County utility guide helps you find the program for the provider on your bill.

Make the installation scope visible.

“Charger installation” can describe quite different jobs. A quote for a nearby garage wall is not directly comparable with one that includes a detached garage, trenching and restoration. Give each bidder the same parking photos, proposed charger and desired scope.

Check the reason for any proposed panel work.

A panel upgrade is a separate decision that needs an electrical assessment. Ask what is being changed, why, and whether it changes the capacity supplied to the property. Read our guide to panel capacity and EV charging before comparing options.

If the quotes recommend different solutions, ask each electrician to explain the difference in writing. Entering the totals in a worksheet cannot establish that the solutions are equivalent.

Use the permit office for your address.

The City of Los Angeles and the rest of the county have different permit routes. Confirm the jurisdiction and utility rather than using the mailing city alone. Our countywide installation guide links the City and County resources; Pasadena, Glendale and Burbank have their own planning guides.

Ask who will obtain the permit, schedule final inspection and supply any documents needed by your utility program. A short advertised installation appointment may exclude time for approvals or service changes.

Compare scope before choosing a price.

CSLB recommends at least three written bids with the same plans, specifications and work scope, and checking a contractor’s licence. The worksheet below compares two bids at a time; use it again for a third. Keep the original written quotes because a total does not record every exclusion.

Ask what is excluded, what could trigger an additional charge and which assumptions depend on an inspection. No contractor has supplied quotes through this site yet. You can use the worksheet with quotes you obtain independently.

Compare two written quotes.

Enter amounts from your electricians’ quotes. These are your figures, not an installation estimate from us. Leave an unknown cost blank. Enter 0 only when the quote confirms it is not charged separately.

If a contractor bundles several items, enter the bundle once and use 0 for the included lines. Confirm that both quotes cover the same work before comparing totals.

Quote A
Subtotal of entered amounts$0.000 of 6 lines confirmed.
Quote B
Subtotal of entered amounts$0.000 of 6 lines confirmed.

Confirm every line in both quotes to compare their totals. Missing costs may change the result.

Amounts stay in this open tab and are not sent to us. Reloading clears them. This worksheet does not assess electrical capacity or confirm rebate eligibility.
