Electrical panel upgrade cost in Los Angeles: define the work first.

Panel replacement, a service-capacity increase and a relocation are different scopes. Compare an itemized assessment and quote before treating two prices as the same project.

Prepared by All In One Handy. Sources checked . Independent planning guidance; a licensed electrician assesses your home.

What does “panel upgrade” include in your quote?

Ask the electrician to name the work being proposed. Replacing equipment does not necessarily mean increasing the capacity supplied to the home. A service change may involve utility coordination as well as work on the property. A relocation can add a different route and surface-restoration scope.

We do not publish a Los Angeles average from unrelated national price ranges. A useful cost for your decision is the written total for the scope your electrician has assessed. Ask each bidder to state the target outcome and exclusions so their prices can be compared.

Ask for these costs and responsibilities separately.

Ask how unknown conditions will be handled and approved before additional work begins. Keep a copy of the assessment and quote, rather than comparing just a headline price on an advertisement.

Confirm the utility before planning a service change.

LADWP’s residential service process covers installing, upgrading, relocating or modifying loads, equipment and meters. Use its official service-request guidance if LADWP supplies your property. Another utility has its own process; a Los Angeles County address does not identify the provider.

Have the contractor confirm which approvals are needed and when. Use our local utility guide if the panel work is part of an EV project. Keep possible incentives outside the pre-rebate project total until eligibility is confirmed.

Adding an EV charger does not settle the panel decision.

If the upgrade is proposed for charging, prepare your vehicle, parking and future appliance plans for an assessment. Read the questions to ask about capacity and charging options, then ask the electrician to explain the recommendation for your home.

When a quote covers both panel work and charging, include the charger, circuit, surface repairs and permits in one comparison. Our EV installation quote worksheet totals amounts you enter and flags incomplete cost lines.

Compare the contractor and the scope together.

Check a proposed contractor’s current licence with CSLB and obtain comparable written bids. Discuss exclusions, schedule, warranties and how project changes are documented. A lower headline price may cover a smaller job.

Our planner organizes your intended project and timing. It does not diagnose the panel, issue an estimate or reserve an electrician. An optional request stays with our owner while contractor matching is being developed.
